about us

Ask About Care is a movement dedicated to advancing caregiver health by recognizing caregivers within the healthcare system. 24% of caregivers delay or skip their own medical care due to caregiving responsibilities. One simple question can change care: “Are you a caregiver?” Caregivers go unrecognized, despite the significant impact caregiving has on their physical and mental health. This gap exacerbates existing levels of stress, burnout, and chronic disease among caregivers.

Ask About Care works to change this by

  • Raising awareness about caregiver health through community education.

  • Providing caregivers with resources for their mental and physical well-being.

  • Educating, training, and providing tools for healthcare professionals to recognize caregivers in the healthcare system.

  • Advocating with policymakers for futuristic fiscal, administrative, technological, and care efficiency on behalf of caregivers, patients, and healthcare workers.

  • Training human resource teams on how to build a healthy workforce.

Across the healthcare system today, millions of family caregivers manage medications, coordinate appointments, provide transportation, and monitor symptoms. Yet, caregivers are rarely identified in care management systems or insurance workflows.

Why Caregiver Identification Matters

Caregivers are often the hidden drivers of patient outcomes. If healthcare systems do not know who caregivers are, they cannot support them, and both patients and payers absorb the costs.

  • 30–40% of caregivers report symptoms of depression or anxiety, which are strongly linked to chronic conditions like heart disease and diabetes.

  • Caregivers experiencing high strain have a 23% higher risk of developing heart disease.

  • Caregivers experience high stress and physical strain. 1 in 5 caregivers report their health as fair or poor.

  • Negative health effects have been found to be reduced through primary care intervention.

Value Delivered to Healthcare Partners

Organizations that partner with Ask About Care gain significant operational advantages:

  • Improved quality metrics and patient experience.

  • Better management of high-risk and high-cost members.

  • Improved medication adherence and appointment follow-through.

  • Reduced avoidable ER visits and hospital readmissions.

A future where caregivers are recognized, supported, and integrated into healthcare conversations so that patients, caregivers, and healthcare workers can converge to recognize caregiver health challenges and ultimately reduce chronic disease.
